COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Every year in the United States more than 23,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

It is a disease that has only a 46% survival rate and often the symptoms are thought to be something less severe.

That is why early detection is so important.

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and an event this weekend hopes to bring more awareness to women in the Pikes Peak Region.

Susan McClain and Laura Ayotte started the Sue DiNapoli Ovarian Cancer Foundation in honor of their mother who passed away from the disease.

They were on FOX21 Morning News to talk about the Teal-A-Thon fundraiser planned for Sunday, Sept. 26.

"Teal is the awareness color for Ovarian Cancer," says McClain. "We are a Colorado Springs foundation that strives to raise awareness and assist local women who have been affected by ovarian cancer."

This weekend the foundation is teaming up with Paloma Salon and Day Spa in downtown Colorado Springs (333 North Tejon).

From 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. haircuts, manicures and mini teal pedicures are just $15 with all the proceeds benefitting the Sue DiNapoli Ovarian Cancer Foundation.

The first forty clients will also receive a Loreal Color of Hope gift bag with three full size products.

The best way to BEAT ovarian cancer is to know the early symptoms:

B Bloating that is persistent

E Eating less but feeling full

A Abdominal pain

T Trouble with your bladder
