Fourteen-year old Brenden Van Bruwaene just wrapped a stint as a skater dude in the Front Range Theater Company's production of "High School Musical."
A challenge for any young actor. And Brenden has Down Syndrome. Yet he beat out dozens of other kids for a role in the show. He said being a part of it was a dream come true.
"It was like a dream," he said. "It's like it's inside me to be in Hollywood, that's how I feel right now."
He's been singing and dancing since he was little.
"He's always been into music, and always been able to pick it up pretty quickly," his sister Ashley said. "He'd listen to music, see a video, and the next time he sees it he knows all the moves. It's been that way since he was little."
Brenden said he was a little nervous preparing for the show, but he worked hard to get it right, and he made an impact on his castmates and the audience. He credits his family for their support.
"Seeing how hard he worked, it was amazing to see the outcome and how much he got into it," Ashley said. "It was amazing to see the other people in the audience relate to him."
Brenden's set on becoming an actor.
"I'd like to be on TV, in concerts, I'd like to be in New York City," he said. "The spotlights, the red carpet, it's going to be fun."
He says there isn't anything he can't do.
"I can do anything. That's the point of life."
