DENVER, COLORADO (AP) -- A mistake by Colorado Republican Ken Buck about electing senators is the topic of the Democrats' second ad blasting challengers to Democratic incumbents.
The ad started airing across Colorado Monday night. It criticizes Buck for once saying he would support a repeal of the 17th Amendment, which set up the direct election of U.S. senators.
Buck made the statement more than a year ago in a campaign appearance and quickly backtracked, saying he misspoke. The ad doesn't mention Buck's change and calls the Republican "too extreme for Colorado."
Buck frequently points out that the incumbent, Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet, was appointed, not elected. The ad is the second taken out by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
