DENVER (AP) -- The head of the National Education Association is kicking off a back-to-school tour in Denver.
The president of the teachers' union, Dennis Van Roekel, visited two schools there on Monday to emphasize teacher involvement in transforming schools. They included the Math and Science Leadership Academy, a new school where teachers collaborate in all parts of the school's operation.
Van Roekel also plans to visit St. Louis, Columbus, Ohio; Tampa, Fla. and San Antonio and Austin in Texas this week.
