Nationally recognized detective's funeral set

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The funeral service will be Aug. 20 for nationally recognized homicide detective Lou Smit, who died Wednesday at Pikes Peak Hospice.

The New Life Church will host funeral services. The church is located at 11025 Voyager Pkwy. in Colorado Springs. The viewing will be at 9 a.m. with services at 10 a.m. The family is requesting people make donations to the Pikes Peak Hospice in lieu of bringing flowers.

Smit worked as an investigator at the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office under District Attorney John Suthers. He was 75.
