PUEBLO, COLO. (AP) -- John Hickenlooper's running mate plans to take a temporary leave from his government job while on the campaign trail.

Colorado State University-Pueblo said Wednesday it had reached an agreement with president Joe Garcia allowing him to remain on the job for the beginning of the academic year.

From now until Sept. 10, Garcia will use his personal time and annual leave time to campaign. Then he'll take a temporary leave for the rest of the campaign. He'll still draw a paycheck at first, using up his remaining leave time. If he uses that up, he'll take unpaid leave.

The president of CSU's flagship Fort Collins campus, Tony Frank, would fill in during that time.

Garcia would keep his job if Hickenlooper loses the Nov. 2 election.
