PUEBLO, COLO. -- Colorado Republicans want Colorado State University-Pueblo to recommend President Joe Garcia withdraw his name from the lieutenant governor race or resign immediately as president of the university.

Colorado Republican Chairman Dick Wadhams wrote a letter to Chancellor Joe Blake on Monday, saying "Colorado taxpayers should not pay Joe Garcia's state salary and benefits while he runs around the state pursuing political ambitions at the expense of CSU-Pueblo."

Garcia said he plans to serve as president at least through the November election, something that does not sit well with Wadhams.

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, the Democratic nominee for governor, named Garcia his running mate last week.
