City begins red light camera installation Monday

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The city of Colorado Springs begins its installation of red light traffic cameras Monday at four intersections.

The intersections include:

- Northbound Nevada Avenue at Bijou Street
- Eastbound Barnes Road at Oro Blanco Drive
- Westbound Platte Avenue at Murray Boulevard
- Westbound Platte Avenue at Circle Drive

The cameras take both still photos and 12 seconds of video. 

The city expects camera installation to be completed by mid-September, at which time the Colorado Springs Police Department will begin to issue warnings to drivers who are caught on camera running red lights. By mid-October, the city expects the system to be fully operational, and police will begin writing citations at that time. The city will announce the date citations begin when it decides.

The City Council approved the photo enforcement city ordinance June 22.
