DOUGLAS COUNTY, COLO. -- A Douglas County deputy was wounded in a shootout with a Richard Wesley Anderson early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. at the Stagecoach in the 2000 block of State Highway 83. Deputies were dispatched to the area in reference to a felony menacing incident with a gun.

Officials said one of the deputies spotted Anderson's car and that when the vehicle stopped the suspect shot the deputy.  They said the deputy also shot Anderson.

Both were taken to the hospital where the deputy was treated and released. Anderson remains in critical condition. He will likely face charges of attempted first degree murder of a peace officer as well as felony menacing.

The District Attorney's Office has not officially filed the case.
