COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- He was a pitcher in Major League Baseball for 22 years and played for nine different teams, one of those being the New York Yankees.

But long before being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, “Goose” Gossage was a hometown hero right here in Colorado Springs.

Now the pitcher, known for his mustache and blazing fastball, has his own figurine.

Earlier Tuesday the local legend showed off a much younger version of himself sporting a Wasson Thunderbirds uniform.

"I have a lot of great memories, a lot of fond memories from high school and being part of that school," said Gossage.

After graduating from Wasson Gossage went on to the big leagues.

"All I wanted to do was put a big league uniform on one time and you know that one time turned into 22 years and I'm totally taken aback by the kind of career that I had," said Gossage.

In 2008 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

"Just to be considered for it was an unbelievable accomplishment. And then to finally be elected on the ninth year of eligibility is something that again I still have to pinch myself," said Gossage.

This weekend he is being honored again, but this time by his own hometown, with a figurine and “Goose Gossage night at the park.”

"I am truly honored. It's very humbling," said Gossage.

Gossage will throw out the first pitch Saturday night and be available to sign autographs.

Plus the first 1500 fans through the gate will get their own Goose Gossage figurine.

"I find myself just all the time just shaking my head and in total awe of it and it’s very, very humbling," said Gossage.

Even after 22 years in the bigs, Gossage came back to the Springs. A place he's proud to call home.

“There is absolutely nothing to me like Colorado and Colorado Springs. As much as it's grown and changed since I went to high school here and grew up here, it's still a great community and the beauty is unsurpassed," said Gossage.

The Sky Sox are taking on the New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday at 7:05pm.

Gates open at 6:00pm.
