SALIDA, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say search dogs might have picked up the scent of a Breckenridge raft guide missing since July 11, but the water on the Arkansas River is still too high to look further in the spot.

Kimberly Appelson was off-duty when she was thrown from a boat near a rapid at the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation area in southern Colorado. Ranger Stew Pappenfort says the search for the 23-year-old woman was suspended where search dogs picked up her trace because late last week because of dangerous conditions.

Six people have died in the area since 1990.

Pappenfort says searches farther down river are being staged this week.

A memorial service for Appelson was planned for Thursday in Buena Vista.
