COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Statistics show El Paso County has a high suicide rate, especially among teenagers.
A young woman who survived a suicide attempt is in Colorado Springs to tell her story in hopes of helping others who may be headed down that same path.
Kristen Anderson was on FOX21 Morning News Friday.
She says when she was 17 years old she experienced many tragedies in her life which caused her to become severely depressed.
One day, she decided to take her own life by lying down on some railroad tracks in front of an oncoming train.
Thirty-three freight cars ran over her body, severing both of her legs - but she survived.
Now in a wheelchair, Anderson travels the country to spread her message of hope, help and faith.
Anderson is the keynote speaker at Calvary Worship Center's "Summer Celebration of Testimonies" on Saturday, July 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
There will also be live music and dancers.
The event is free and open to the public.
Calvary Worship Center is located at 501 Castle Rd.
