WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (AP) -- State wildlife officials say a 51-pound grass carp hooked by a teen in Jefferson County is the heaviest fish on record to be caught in Colorado.

Fourteen-year-old Cody Moreland of Golden caught the fish June 4 at Prospect Park Lake. It took about 25 minutes to land it. The carp was 42 inches long with a girth of 28 inches.

The previous record was set by Donald Walker, who caught a 50.35-pound lake trout at Blue Mesa Reservoir in western Colorado in 2007.

Before Moreland's catch, the heaviest grass carp recorded as caught in Colorado was a 44.8-pounder in 2006 at a private lake in Larimer County.
