COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Two Colorado Republicans running for Senate turned the campaign heat up in their first debate since the Republican ballot was settled between Weld County prosecutor Ken Buck and former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton.
The candidates clashed Tuesday over the war in Afghanistan as Republicans head toward an Aug. 10 primary. The incumbent, Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet, faces a primary, too.
Norton said the nation should "double down" in Afghanistan and recommit to fighting Islamic jihadists. Buck said he doesn't favor a timeline for withdrawal but said it would be "foolish" to seek a Western-style democracy in that country.
