PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (AP) — A bomb-sniffing dog that died of cancer has been remembered in a memorial service at Peterson Air Force Base.

The dog, named Chaky, died last month at age 10.

The 21st Security Forces Squadron at Peterson held a service for Chaky on June 8. His kennel and an upside-down dog bowl were on the stage.

Chaky was trained at the Defense Department Military Working Dog School at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He performed demonstrations at the school for two years before he was assigned to Peterson Air Force Base.

He was in the process of being retired when he was diagnosed with cancer.
