Family was returning home from trip to Texas
PUEBLO, COLO. -- Pueblo Police Department has released details of a Sunday traffic crash in which a teenage passenger was killed.
Officers responded at about 6:30 p.m. to the northbound lanes of the 2900 block of southbound Interstate 25 in regards to a single-vehicle rollover accident.
A 14-year-old passenger, identified as Megan Munoz, had been fully ejected, sustained life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital.
The driver of the vehicle was her mother, 45-year-old Rosie Suarez. A third occupant was 12-year-old Marilyn Suarez, also the daughter of Rosie Suarez. The family lives in Littleton and was returning home from Texas.
Evidence and witness accounts indicate that Rosie Suarez was attempting to lawfully pass a vehicle that was in the right lane. She drove into the left hand lane and partially drove off of the west shoulder of the road. When she attempted to steer back onto the roadway, she overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle, a 2000 Toyota Tundra.
The vehicle spun and veered off the east shoulder, traveling sideways. The vehicle continued in this manner before tripping and rolling multiple times. Munoz was ejected during the roll and appears to have been run over by the Toyota Tundra.
All three occupants were transported to Parkview Medical Center where Megan Munoz was pronounced dead.
Rosie Suarezsustained life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition.
Marilyn Suarez was treated and released with minor injuries.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the accident.
