FRISCO, Colo. (AP) — Seven physicians and about 18 staff have volunteered their time to give free surgeries to 13 people in the mountain town of Frisco.

The operations took place Saturday at the Peak One Surgery Center. Dr. Peter Janes organized the event for patients without health insurance.

The operations included a hysterectomy and a knee repair.

The patients were selected through the nearby Summit Community Care Clinic, which cares for people who don't have enough insurance or have none at all.

Patients were chosen from a group of about 20 based on how much the surgery would change their lives.

Janes says he hopes the event will take place at least once a year.
