DENVER (AP) -- Colorado's Republican U.S. Senate contest has gelled, as state officials have cleared former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton for primary ballots.

Norton will face Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck in an Aug. 10 primary. Buck achieved top billing on the ballots through the statewide Republican assembly last month.

Norton bypassed the assembly and chose an alternate route to ballots, turning in petitions from every congressional district.

She turned in her ballots late last month and learned Wednesday that she was certified for Republican ballots.

The winner faces either Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet or his challenger, former state House Speaker Andrew Romanoff.
