WILSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) -- A convicted sex offender who was a fugitive from Colorado has been arrested in Oregon.
The U.S. Marshals Service said Friday that 56-year-old Kirk Alan Richardson was arrested at a motel in suburban Wilsonville, just south of Portland.
Authorities said Richardson was originally convicted in California in 1980 for rape and assault with a deadly weapon after an attack on a woman he hit in the head with a hammer before raping her.
Richardson was charged in Colorado with sexual assault by force and failure to appear on a motor vehicle theft charge.
The U.S. Marshals' Oregon Fugitive Task Force was called in after a tip from authorities in Denver placing Richardson in the Portland metro area. He was being held at the Multnomah County Jail in Portland.
