BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- Two Boulder County clinics are telling 79 patients that their medical records have been stolen.
An additional 447 patients of the Boulder Community Hospital Network are getting letters explaining the recent identity theft and offering free identity theft protection services.
Hospital officials say the thefts happened when two recycling bins outside were left unlocked. In March, 14 patients who'd been treated at clinics in Broomfield and Lafayette reported receiving anonymous letters in the mail with copies of their medical information.
Police are investigating the identity thefts. The medical group says it is reviewing security.
