DENVER (AP) -- Colorado's senior senator is saying good things about the president's latest Supreme Court nominee, but Sen. Mark Udall also chided the administration for not suggesting a Westerner.

The Democrat met with Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan on Wednesday. Udall sent reporters a statement praising Kagan's intellect and wishing for a speedy confirmation.

But Udall wrapped his comments with remarks about not having enough Westerners on the highest court. Udall said the court would be "enhanced" by another Westerner. Kagan is from New York City.

Two of the court's nine justices, Anthony Kennedy and Stephen G. Breyer, come from the West. Both are from California.
