DENVER (AP) -- Republican Jane Norton turned in 35,000 signatures to the Colorado secretary of state, which she says is more than enough signatures to make GOP Senate primary ballots.

Norton submitted the signatures Wednesday, a day before they're due. Norton needs 1,500 signatures from registered Republicans in each of Colorado's seven congressional districts. If she's cleared for the ballot, Norton will face Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck in an Aug. 10 primary.

Norton is a former lieutenant governor who chaired Republican Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign in Colorado in 2008.

Another Republican who planned to petition onto primary ballots, Tom Wiens, dropped out of the race Monday.

Norton planned to turn in petition signatures to the secretary of state Wednesday, a day before they're due. Norton needs 1,500 signatures from registered Republicans in each of Colorado's seven congressional districts.
