COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Storm Prediction Center has dropped the following counties from the tornado watch: Baca, Bent, Kiowa and Prowers.
A tornado watch officially remains in effect for the following counties in southern Colorado until 7 p.m.: Cheyenne, Kit Carson, and Lincoln.
Atmospheric conditions are favorable for thunderstorms to develop along a dry line that is marching eastward across the plains of Colorado. Some of those storms could produce large hail and isolated tornadoes.
* If a severe thunderstorm warning is issued for your area, remain indoors and stay away from windows.
* Unplug any unnecessary appliances and do not use corded telephones.
If a tornado warning is issued for your area:
* Seek shelter in your basement or lowest interior room of your home.
* If you live in a mobile home, take cover in your bathtub and use pillows or blankets to cover your head.
There is also a High Wind Warning for all of southern Colorado. That is in effect until 6 p.m.
The National Weather Service in Pueblo issued the warning for wind speeds between 30-40 mph, and gusts upwards of 65 mph. Winds this strong can cause structural damage to roofs, and can blow down tree limbs and power lines.
There have been numerous reports of wind gusts between 60-70 mph across southern Colorado.
The winds are expected to drop below these criteria levels as we head into the evening hours, but it'll still be blustery this evening until our storm system departs Colorado overnight.
Monday's storm comes on the heels of reports of a tornado and large hail around the town of Springfield in Baca County. National Weather Service investigators are on the scene of that tornado's path and are expected to have a damage assessment within the next day or two.
