Was not a suspected bomb threat
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A cashier at Kings Soopers, 3250 Centennial Blvd., reported to Colorado Springs Police Department Sunday night that a male walked into the King Sooper with a briefcase and left it at the self-checkout counter. The incident happened just before 9 p.m.
The cashier noticed the case and caught up to the man at the front door and told him he left his briefcase. He said something like,"That's OK, just leave it," and walked out of the store.
The cashier notified her manager but did not see if man got into a vehicle. The store was evacuated and police notified. Store management identified a possible suspect and contact was attempted at his home via telephone, with negative results.
X-rays of the briefcase showed it was empty, and officers confirmed it was empty.
The male suspect called police after listening to the message left on his voice mail, and stated that he found the briefcase in the parking lot while entering the store, and left it in the store in case the owner came looking for it. However, e failed to notify store employee of his actions.
The briefcase was placed into found police property.
