CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say a single-engine plane that started taxiing away from Centennial Airport without its pilot on board rolled about 1,000 feet across a runway before flipping over.

Arapahoe County sheriff's officials say 73-year-old Richard Steinmier was outside the 1978 Cessna 182 Skylane II Monday morning, trying to manually turn the propeller when it started moving without him inside. The plane damaged some runway signs before flipping in a grassy area.

South Metro Fire Rescue spokesman Andy Lyon says the pilot was treated for arm lacerations. No one else was hurt.

The National Transportation Safety Board and airport officials were investigating. Authorities say the plane was worth about $80,000 but is a total loss.
