DENVER (AP) -- An agreement between Colorado health officials and the Army calls for more sensitive monitoring for leaks at the Pueblo Chemical Depot.
The state health department released details of the agreement this week. The deal settles a federal lawsuit filed by the state. It must still be approved by the judge.
The Army stores about 2,600 tons of mustard agent at the depot outside Pueblo. A plant under construction at the depot will destroy the chemical to comply with an international treaty.
State officials say the agreement includes monitoring for lower concentrations of mustard and determining what other hazardous wastes, if any, are released if the mustard leaks.
The state says the Army previously agreed to close the vents on the mustard storage buildings.
