COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Update Friday, 2:45 p.m.

Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has released details of the Friday morning robbery at Key Bank.

The call to report a robbery with a weapon came in at 9:40 a.m. Police say the suspect entered the bank and demanded money while holding the victims at gunpoint. He left with an undisclosed amount of money, but then dropped the bag outside the bank after a red dye pack detonated inside the bag.

It is not known if the suspect escaped with any money that was in the bag.

Before officers arrived on scene, the suspect exited the bank and attempted to carjack an occupied vehicle that was driving by the location. The vehicle did not stop and the suspect fired a shot, striking the vehicle in its side, missing the two occupants. The suspect then fled on foot.

The vehicle had driven a short distance from the scene, but returned once police arrived to talk to police.

Officers and a canine unit searched the area, but did not find the suspect. He was described as a black male wearing a black coat, gray hooded sweatshirt under the coat, and a plaid shirt over the sweatshirt. He is of medium build and approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the suspect is asked to call CSPD at 719-444-7000 or can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP (7867).
