CANON CITY, COLO. -- Three offenders at Four Mile Correctional Center in Canon City have been diagnosed to have E. coli infections.

Eight more inmates are suspected to have come down with E. coli symptoms.

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Department (CDPHE) officials are at the facility investigating the source of the infection. At this time, the origin is not known.

Initial inspections of the kitchens have found them to be sanitary.

The Department of Corrections is taking all precautions and working closely with CDPHE to restrict the spread of the bacteria.

Information from State of Colorado.
