COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — An Army officer has pleaded guilty in a Colorado civilian court to hitting his roommate's cat so hard it suffered brain damage and required $7,000 worth of veterinary care.

Lt. Erik R. Eisentraut pleaded guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor animal abuse in a Colorado Springs court. In a plea agreement, he agreed to pay the veterinary bills, take anger-management class, undergo an animal cruelty evaluation and perform community service.

A judge must decide whether to accept the agreement.

The 30-year-old Eisentraut is assigned to Fort Carson.

In the plea agreement, he said he hit the cat because he thought it was about to scratch or bite him.

The cat also suffered a broken rib and a concussion but survived and is recovering.
