DENVER (AP) -- The number of attorneys and law firms providing free legal work has nearly tripled since 2006, when the Colorado Supreme Court first began asking attorneys to voluntarily provide at least 50 hours of free work per year.

The court announced Wednesday that 94 firms, attorneys or in-house counsel groups achieved the yearly goal last year, up from 34 in 2006.

Colorado's attorney rules of professional conduct state that every attorney should aspire to provide some free work to the poor or organizations that help the poor.
