COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Pepper, a 7 year old Standard Poodle/Terrier mix, is looking for a loving home.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) says Pepper was surrendered to the shelter, but no reason was given.
At the time the dog had a very dirty, matted coat and bad teeth.
But she has now been shaved and has even had her teeth cleaned.
"She is so friendly, loves to smile, walks well on a leash and knows some commands", says Stacey Candella with HSPPR. "She is a little chunky, so she may need some exercise and a low-calorie diet."
Pepper's adoption fee is $53.
Candella says there are benefits to adopting a senior pet including:
* They are often already housebroken and trained
* They are past the chewing, scratching and destructive phase that young pets can go through
* They are able to come in and be that calm, enjoyable pet from day one
* They are okay with a slower pace
* Senior dogs can show younger dogs how it's done!
