WALSENBURG, COLO. (AP) -- Some were sick.

Some blamed the snow.

Others simply forgot.

Nearly 40 people who failed to show up for jury duty in Huerfano County District Court in January and February were grilled Monday by Judge Claude Appel.

He says they received contempt citations after their absences kept the court from holding some trials.

Appel didn't hold anyone in contempt of court Monday, but each was asked to sign up for future jury duty.

Some of the no-show jurors, who came from as far as Fort Collins and New Mexico, said they no longer lived in the county.

Appel said he would probably issue warrants for four people who missed the hearing Monday.
