COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- A Colorado Springs man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for leaving his son brain-damaged after hitting him in the head when the child was less than a month old.

Twenty-five-year-old Michael Anthony Douglas received his sentenced Monday after a jury convicted him in January of child abuse. Authorities say Douglas hit his son once in the head on October 2007 and that the blow damaged the boy permanently. The boy, now 2, is expected to have profound speech, hearing and learning disabilities for the rest of his life.

Douglas asked a judge to give him a lighter sentence so he could see his two other sons grow up.
