ASPEN, Colo. (AP) -- The U.S. Forest Service has approved Buttermilk's long-term proposals to build Nordic ski jumps and expand snowmaking, summer horseback riding and lift facilities.

White River National Forest supervisor Scott Fitzwilliams' decision March 5 caps a two-year process that included an environmental assessment and public comments.

Aspen Skiing Co. spokesman Jeff Hanle says there are no immediate plans to implement the approved proposals, which include 86 more acres of snowmaking, a snowmaking reservoir, a Nordic ski jumping venue plus a 900-foot surface tow ski lift to access the jumps and a 3,000-square-foot lift maintenance facility.
