Injured military, vets to compete in Colo. games

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — About 200 wounded military members and veterans will compete in swimming, cycling, wheelchair basketball and other sports in Colorado Springs in May.

The inaugural Warrior Games are sponsored by the Defense Department and the U.S. Olympic Committee.

The Army will send 100 competitors, the Marines 50, the Air Force 25 and the Navy and Coast Guard 25 combined.

Service members with physical injuries and those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and similar wounds are eligible.

Competitors will train with Olympic and Paralympic coaches at the USOC facilities in Colorado Springs. The games run May 10-14.

Other competitions include archery, track, discus, shot put and sitting volleyball.
