DENVER (AP) -- Denver airport officials say hundreds of bags were loaded onto airplanes in late December without being run through security scanners.

The breach was first reported by KMGH-TV in Denver.

The Transportation Security Administration says it's investigating.

Denver International Airport Manager of Aviation Kim Day says the incident involved "a couple thousand" bags.

KMGH says it obtained records showing the breach started on Christmas Day and lasted for seven days. The station says an airport memo indicates the bags bypassed scanners because of a human error in programming a computer.

The station says records and interviews indicate the unscanned bags went on United Airlines flights. The station says an airline spokeswoman declined comment.
