PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — A four-day school week is coming for students in Pueblo County School District 70 next school year, as the district tries to cut its budget by $5.8 million.

The district's Board of Education voted 5-0 Tuesday to approve the new schedule.

The district's finance officer, Ryan Elarton, has estimated that the change could save between $883,000 and $1.1 million in cuts in utilities expenses, transportation costs and salaries for some workers.

Teacher pay is not expected to be affected.

The board is still considering a proposal to combine Vineland and Pleasant View middle schools, which could save an estimated $564,000 in salaries and benefits.

The district has more than 9,000 students.
