DENVER (AP) — Medical marijuana activists are fighting a proposal to regulate Colorado's medical marijuana dispensaries.

They plan to rally outside the Capitol at noon Thursday ahead of the first hearing on the proposed regulations.

Patient groups say they go too far in limiting people's right to use the drug. They say a provision banning pot possession near schools could prevent people from using medical pot in their homes.

Dispensaries also have some problems with the proposed regulations but have won some concessions, including the right to continue to operate as for-profit businesses.

Law enforcement interests oppose the bill, too. They say it wrongly legitimizes dispensaries.
