COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- FOX21 News highlights Black History Month with a look at African American firsts in space.

The first African American in space was Guion Bluford on the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1983.

In 1992, Mae Carol Jemison became the first African American woman to travel in space, this aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor.

In 1995, Bernard Anthony Harris became the first African American to walk in space.

These three great individuals have given African Americans more than pride to keep their heads up to the stars.
