COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- FOX21 News highlights Black History month with a look at Elijah McCoy.
In the early 1900s, McCoy rose to heroic status in the African American community by holding more patents than any other black inventor up to that time.
We have McCoy to thank for things like the lawn sprinkler and the folding ironing board, but most of his work was related to steam engines.
One of his inventions in this field became very popular and widely copied. Many railroad engineers knew quality when they saw it however, and insisted their engines be fitted with the "Real McCoy."
