DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado House has approved and sent to the governor a package of budget-balancing bills taxing everything from candy and soda to online sales.

Lawmakers also approved bills taxing energy used in manufacturing and pesticides, despite fears the taxes will cause layoffs.

The bills approved Tuesday are among a package of tax changes proposed by Gov. Bill Ritter to help close a combined $1.5 billion budget shortfall this year and next year.
