DENVER (AP) — Colorado's two Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate are meeting for their first debate.

Incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet and challenger Andrew Romanoff will be fielding the same questions during a forum Tuesday night at the Auraria Campus.

The event sponsored by the Denver Young Democrats is open to the public.

Gov. Bill Ritter appointed Bennet to take the Senate seat vacated by Ken Salazar after Salazar was nominated for interior secretary. President Barack Obama is supporting Bennet and will be in Denver Thursday to speak at two fundraising events for him.

Romanoff is former speaker of the Colorado House. He announced last week that he has the support of 61 current and former state legislators and the Teamsters and United Food and Commercial Workers unions.
