DENVER (AP) -- A Denver businessman is accused of keeping asbestos at a storage facility instead of disposing of it immediately after his company removed it from three Colorado businesses.
A Denver federal grand jury indicted James Robert Soyars Jr. last week on nine counts, including failing to deposit asbestos immediately and failing to label containers. Authorities say Soyars violated the Clean Air Act when his company, Talon Environmental Inc., allegedly removed asbestos from a former Greeley bowling alley, a Gateway Mazda dealership in Aurora, and the Transamerica Title Company building in Colorado Springs.
Exposure to airborne asbestos could increase the risk of developing lung disease.
If convicted, Soyars could face up to five years in prison.
