DENVER -- The Indianapolis Colts were not the only losers Superbowl weekend -- so were 371 people arrested for drunk driving in Colorado.

The arrests were made by the Colorado State Patrol and 24 law enforcement agencies that conducted a "Heat Is On" crackdown from 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, until 3 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8.

According to preliminary data, there were no alcohol-related fatalities in the state during this time period. This year’s arrests are up from significantly from last year’s Superbowl DUI crackdown, which netted 271 DUIs.

“It’s disappointing that so many people disregarded the warnings and chose to put other lives in danger by driving impaired,” said Col. James Wolfinbarger, chief of the Colorado State Patrol. “Instead of enjoying the big game, they face jail time and more than $10,000 in fines, fees, and increased insurance rates. We thank the thousands of others who took the time to plan ahead and designate a sober driver or take public transportation to and from their Superbowl gatherings.”

From 2006 to 2008 in Colorado, 50 percent of traffic fatalities on Superbowl weekend involved alcohol. Nationally, on Superbowl Sunday alone, 49 percent of fatalities involved a driver or motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level of .08 or higher.

These agencies made the following amount of DUI arrests:

Colorado State Patrol (70)

Denver PD (51)

Aurora PD (40)

Colorado Springs PD (22)

CSP Troop 1D Adams Co. (17)

Fort Collins PD (16)

Lakewood PD (15)

Adams County SO (14)

Boulder PD (14)

Larimer County SO (14)

Pueblo PD (13)
