DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Supreme Court has granted Gov. Bill Ritter's request to review campaign finance laws.

Ritter's chief legal counsel, Trey Rogers, said the court agreed Thursday to take up the case and ordered lawmakers and other interested parties to submit briefs by March 5. Responses to those briefs will be due March 31.

The governor is asking the court to determine if state campaign finance laws are unconstitutional in light of a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing businesses and unions to directly spend unlimited amounts of money to produce and run their own campaign ads.

That could potentially conflict with Colorado's Amendment 27, which was approved by Colorado voters in 2002.
