COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is investigating one of its own after an officer-involved shooting. It happened near Woodmen and Union.
Police say someone spotted two men inside a home and called police.
When the first officers arrived they found the men still inside the home. An officer fired at one of the suspects.
Police say no one was hit by the bullet and officers detained both men.
Neighbors FOX21 News spoke to are shocked something like this happened in their quiet neighborhood.
"You never want to come home and have a bunch of cops around and you can tell who is cops and who is detectives, so it’s a little nerve racking," said one neighbor.
It all started with an alert neighbor.
"The individual reported that there were two males in a home and they didn’t believe that they belonged there," said Lt. David Whitlock of CSPD.
The neighbor called police and seven minutes later the first two officers on the scene and found the suspects still inside the house.
Police say one officer confronted one of the suspects in the garage. Investigators say the officer fired once, missing the suspect.
"Makes you nervous. Definitely makes you watch things. I don’t know if I’ll be packing up tomorrow," a neighbor said.
No one was home at the time.
But a boy who lives at the home came home from school just after the shooting. Police had to escort him around the scene to be reunited with his mom who rushed home from work.
Police say they will work with the district attorney's office to determine if the shooting was justified.
Meanwhile, people who live here hope things get back to normal quickly.
"I half expect this to happen on the south end of town but up north end of town, it's very quiet on the north end of town," another neighbor said.
The two suspects were detained by police.
The officer who fired the shot is on routine leave while the shooting is under investigation.
