ASPEN, Colo. (AP) -- A woman's quest to bring extreme hugging to the Winter X Games has fallen short.

Dagny McKinley of Steamboat Springs tried Thursday to set a Guinness world record for most hugs in a 24-hour period.

The writer and dogsledding guide needed to hug 5,001 people at the entrance of the extreme sports competition. McKinley only made it into the arms of 2,352 people. She says the record attempt was fun and that she'll try it again.

A different record was set at the Winter X Games, though.

Organizers say the four-day attendance of 84,100 spectators set a record, beating the previous mark in 2000.
