DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Senate has confirmed two of Gov. Bill Ritter's appointees over the objections of most Republicans.

On Tuesday the Senate voted 20-13 to confirm Jim Martin as the new director of the Department of Natural Resources, replacing Harris Sherman. Senators voted 21-12 to allow Martha Rudolph to lead the Department of Public Health and Environment, the job formerly held by Martin.

Senate Republicans objected to Martin's role in creating new oil and gas regulations they blame for reducing drilling. Minority Leader Josh Penry said Martin is trying to speed up oil and gas permitting but said he still couldn't support him.

Some Senate Republicans also opposed Rudolph because she believes humans are causing global warming.
