ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Private jets coming to Aspen aren't as loud as they used to be. But airport officials are renewing an effort to reduce airport noise because there's a greater volume of flights.

The Aspen-Pitkin County Airport plans to begin measuring and keeping track of the noise generated by individual, private aircraft. Airport officials say they'll send thanks to pilots and jet owners who keep it quiet. Commercial planes are already quiet, but some older private jets spark noise complaints.

The airport hopes to encourage jet owners with more than one aircraft to send their quietest planes to Aspen.

Through November of last year, the airport had 36,290 flights land or take off. The airport received seven noise complaints in that time.
