Generation Pink Gala & Auction to raise money for cancer research
One of the pieces of artwork that uses the female form to raise money for breast cancer research.
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- With an estimated 200,000 Americans diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, one local group of seniors is trying to draw attention to the cause by "baring it all" for the sake of art.
Debbie Lannoye with Brookdale Senior Living stopped by FOX21 Morning News to showcase a few pieces of art that will be up for sale at the "Generation Pink Gala and Auction" Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Village at Skyline.
"With most seniors living in retirement communities being female, we thought we would make that a goal," Lannoye said about trying to tackle breast cancer.
Volunteers (both female and male) put their torsos into plaster, then the casts went out to various local artists who then put their finesse and flair on each one.
There are 10 casts up for bid. If you want to bid early on any of the pieces, visit the Web site by clicking here. Click on the "Generation Pink" box on the right side of the page.
The auction runs from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27. It is free of charge to attend.
Village at Skyline is located at 2365 Patriot Heights on the west side of Colorado Springs.
Reservations are requested. Contact Debbie Lannoye at (719) 659-7883.
